Mother Blessing
A ceremony to prepare for the threshold of birth.
A Mother Blessing gathers a small circle of women around the mother-to-be, to support, witness and strengthen her as she approaches one of life’s most significant transitions.
This is not a celebration of the baby, but a recognition of the woman — and the profound work her body is already doing.
What this ceremony is
A Mother Blessing honours the transition into motherhood by creating a held, intentional space where the woman can be seen, supported, and strengthened.
It offers a more grounded and meaningful alternative to a baby shower, centred on connection, presence, and care.
Each ceremony is shaped in dialogue with you, taking into account your personal circumstances, relationships, and context.
What happens
We begin with a preparatory conversation (30 minutes), to understand what’s needed and to shape the ceremony together.
In the days leading up to the gathering, I work with your chosen circle to prepare, including shared food or practical support.
On the day, I arrive in advance to set up the space.
As women arrive, they are welcomed into the circle with a simple grounding.
The ceremony may include:
– Sharing circle
– Birth beads
– Calling in your Mother Line
– Naming and releasing fears
– Song, drumming, and moments of silence
– Hand and foot massage, and anointing
The ceremony closes gently, allowing time for integration and transition into a shared meal.
Why it matters
Approaching birth within a supportive, attentive circle around you changes how a woman meets the experience.
Rather than entering birth alone, or within a purely clinical framework, she carries with her a sense of connection, emotional safety, and being held.
This kind of preparation changes the ground from which birth is met.
